Fruit and Vegetable

Prescription Program

Flint is home to Michigan’s first fruit and vegetable prescription program for kids. The program increases access to healthy, locally grown foods by providing children with prescriptions for fresh fruits and vegetables when they visit their pediatrician.

By increasing the affordability of fresh produce and improving access to high-quality fruits and vegetables, children in the program are better able to meet the nutritional needs of their growing bodies and establish healthy eating patterns that will continue through adolescence and into adulthood. Early results of this program show that children who participate in the Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program increase their intake of fresh fruits and vegetables over time.

The Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program is offered at:

  • Akpinar Children’s Clinic
  • Bright Future Pediatrics
  • Hurley Children’s Center
  • Hurley Family Health Center (pediatric only)
  • Hurley OB/GYN Healthcare Associates-Flint
  • Mott Children’s Health Center
